Day 1: Arrival
On arrival you will be picked by our representative who will brief you on the safari and take you to your hotel (Nairobi Airport Home Stay) and take a rest for the night.
Day 2: Amboseli National Park
Early in the morning, After breakfast you shall depart to Amboseli National park from Nairobi, where you will start your safari. This scenic park is graced by the mighty Savannah Elephants, The mammals here are great indeed and we shall take time to enjoy them. The local birds are great and we shall be hoping to enjoy seeing many species. All meals and over night will be at Kibo Safari Camp.
Day: 3-4 Tsavo West National park
After the visit in Amboseli we shall proceed to the vast Tsavo West National Park, Which is a beautiful, rugged wilderness. The Savannah ecosystem comprises of open grasslands, scrublands, and Acacia woodlands, belts of riverine vegetation and rocky ridges including the Poacher’s Lookout where visitors can see the teeming herds in the plains below. Tsavo West offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions include elephant, rhino, Hippos, lions, cheetah, leopards, Buffalos, diverse plant and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler. We shall also visit the wetland ecosystem at lake jipe and look for the localized species both on lake shore and in dryland. Dinner and over night will be at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge.
Early on day 4, after breakfast you shall make a short trip to Taita Hills, mainly searching for the local endemics, Taita White-eye, Taita Thrush and Taita Apalis. We shall then head back to our lounge for the night.
Day: 5-6 shimba Hills
You will then proceed to Shimba hills which is rich in flora and fauna and hosts the highest density of African elephant in Kenya. Other animal species found in the area are Sable antelope, elephant shrew, bushy tailed mongoose and other small mammals like fruit bats. The forest is an important bird area and is endowed with forest birdlife while the grasslands hold localized species such as red-necked-Spur fowl, Croaking Cisticola and Zanzibar Red Bishop. The scenic Sheldrick Falls and the dense Mwaluganje Forest are also found here along with four campsites. On your first day we will enjoy a great deal of birding on arrival which will extend to the second day till in the afternoon, upon which we will depart to our next safari. Meals and overnight will be at Shimba Hills Lodge.
Day:7 Arabuko Sokoke Forest
Early in the morning, after breakfast you shall maximize the mornings for forest birding at Arabuko Sokoke Forest, Since this is the best time for birding in the coastal lowland.Later in the afternoons, we shall visit the marine wetlands for some water birds this will include a visits to the Mida Creek, for the marine shorebirds, terns and gulls depending on the tides, among many other abundant birds and Sabaki River Mouth. In the evening at Arabuko, we shall try a search for nocturnal species of owls and nightjars. Meals and overnight at Mida Creek Eco Camp.
Day: 8-9 Tsavo east National Park
You shall then proceed to our last stop at Tsavo east National park early in the morning after breakfast. The park forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the larger mammals, vast herds of dust –red elephant, Rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, pods of hippo, crocodile, waterbucks, lesser Kudu, gerenuk and the prolific bird life features 500 recorded species.We shall drive from Malindi enjoying many dryland birds on the way. We shall spend day in Tsavo East, scoring more birds from this magical destination. Meals and over night will be at Voi Safari Lodge. The next day after breakfast we will extend our birding early in the morning to around 1100hrs upon which we will depart to Nairobi on our way back we shall enjoy birding along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road. We shall enjoy lunch en route at a restaurant where we shall also enjoy some more birding. On arrival in Nairobi we shall enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and then head to the airport for the flight home marking the end to our lovely Coastal Kenya Birding Safari.
